Friends for Life

Friends for Life is a recognised behavioural programme in schools based on a psychological model, rigorously tested across a wide range of ages, ethnicities and socio-economic groups.

Teachers guide students through a series of class-based activities over 10 sessions, designed to teach them how to develop strategies – including seeking support when needed – to overcome challenges.

With the help of the Wayne Francis Charitable Trust, the Life Paths Charitable Trust is currently carrying out a 5-year trial on the programme in a cluster of intermediate and secondary schools in a Christchurch suburb. A comprehensive evaluation process is also incorporated into the trial.

Friends for Life is the only programme of its kind acknowledged by the World Health Organisation for its research, and is the Wayne Francis Trust’s largest funding project.
