Graeme remembers Wayne as a quiet, unassuming guy, who related well to people and always thought of others.
“He wasn’t a businessman in a collar and tie sense. He had the ability to recognise a good deal, but always left something in it for the other side.”
Graeme is honoured to be a part of Wayne’s enduring legacy, and a Trust firmly committed to effecting long-term change for young people. He is relatively new to work within the not-for-profit sector, but believes better collaboration between charities, trusts and community groups, and stronger government involvement is needed in order to improve outcomes for young people.
“There are so many kids out there that need help, and so many amazing youth workers and organisations that get little support and recognition for what they do."
“It’s easy to have the best of will in this world, but that will has got be focused. Making a difference is a huge challenge, but one way we can reduce this challenge is by working together.”
Graeme says that with its unique approach to funding, and positive commitment to systemic change, the Wayne Francis Charitable Trust has the opportunity to really revolutionize the way organisations and groups foster youth development.
“The key is to take it one step at a time, but we’re not bound by rules, and aren’t afraid to take risks,” he says.
