Simon Mortlock
| Personal Bio Simon Mortlock is a founding partner of Christchurch-based law firm Mortlock McCormack Law, and is a primary Trustee of the Wayne Francis Charitable Trust. Simon met Wayne during an easement dispute in 1992, and not long after began representing him in his business affairs. The pair formed a lasting friendship, which Simon says was built on similar values and personal experiences. | ![]() |
“Wayne was a man of few words, who went by the simple principle in life that if you receive, you’ve got to give back."
“He had a very strong image – physically, intellectually, and in terms of his demeanor. He fought for what he thought was right, but was fair and always took on people’s advice. He was personable and loyal, with a young disposition and an uncanny ability to charm the people around him. He was an astute businessman, but a real farmer at heart.”
Like Wayne, Simon is firmly committed to helping create a society more attuned to the needs of young people, having been involved with advocacy programmes for more than 30 years.
“One of life’s blessings is to help make the lives of others better, and for me, it is the most emotionally satisfying role one could wish for. That’s because the challenges and the consequences are so great. Wayne wanted to make a contribution to young people, because he understood that with the right level of support, you can empower people and find solutions.”
Simon advocates for stronger relationships between schools and the community, improved co-ordination of facilities, and better implementation of government programs that target young people.
